EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The meeting of the Permanent Working Group on Stock Assessment Methodologies (PWGM)  of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) Scientific Advisory Committee on Fisheries (SAC) was held online on 3–4 February 2021 to discuss the stock assessment methodologies used to provide advice within the GFCM. It was attended by 45 experts, including experts from the region, external experts from other relevant organizations and the GFCM Secretariat. 

The PWGM agreed on a proposed process to consolidate a catalogue of stock assessment methods used in the GFCM, together with a critical assessment of their uses, limitations and expected evolution. In addition, the group provided advice on other important points to take into account when revising the framework for the provision of advice within the GFCM, expected to be carried out within the context of the GFCM 2030 Strategy.
