Monrovia - Studying soil status in Liberia is of paramount importance for national development, effective soil resources management, and successful crop production in the country.

This is why the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in partnership with the Government of Liberia and the University of Liberia and under the technical support of FAO’s Global Soil Partnership developed the Liberia Soil Informationk System (LibSIS), a digital platform that contains maps showing the distribution and trends of soil chemical, physical and derived soil properties alongside spatially-explicit information on natural parks and land suitability.

The Proceedings of the Global Symposium on Soils for Nutrition, held from 26 to 29 July 2022, have been released, showcasing innovative research and valuable insights into the global issue of nutrient imbalance. This symposium, which attracted experts from various sectors, shed light on the multifactorial drivers and far-reaching effects of this critical challenge on agricultural systems and planetary processes.

The Global Soil Partnership (GSP) Plenary Assembly is the most important gathering of the partnership where crucial decisions concerning the global soil agenda are taken. It is the main platform for FAO Members and GSP partners to meet and exchange knowledge and expertise in the field of sustainable soil management.
