Climate change is a challenge for rural populations in Central and West Africa, affecting the proportion of people suffering from precarious access to water. It’s estimated that by 2025, nearly a quarter of the world’s population will be living in countries with absolute water scarcity. Smallholder farmers are among the most vulnerable to the impact of climate change. For them, small-scale irrigation and other forms of agricultural water management are essential to improve agricultural production and to ensure their livelihoods.

FAO, IFAD and national governments are supporting family farmers from West and Central Africa to adapt small-scale irrigation systems to climate change to be more resilient. A survey was carried out among 691 households in 21 sites located in this region to assess how farmers are coping with climate change.
