Course sheet

Course Name:

FAO Project Cycle

Format:

Self-paced Course

Total length:

35 chronological hours.

Course modality and methodology:

This course organizes seven technical-pedagogical units for sequential exploration, which means that once a unit has been thoroughly reviewed, it is possible to access the next one. However, once completely revised, the workshop design partially allows access to the contents through specific consultations in the corresponding units.

Each unit describes a differentiated theme in its contents and activities linked to the different project cycle phases, nevertheless they determine the achievement of the learning objective. Throughout the course, participants will have the opportunity to review concepts, learn and reinforce procedures and apply the criteria. The technical-pedagogical units connect to key concepts of the study topic regarding the implementation of projects throughout their life cycle under the logical framework approach.

This course will provide two tools through which will deliver the technical content and review applied case studies:

The tools are the following:

  • Text in pdf format for each unit: each unit, linked to one of the project cycle phases, will have a text detailing the FAO administrative process through which each formulated project must pass, explaining the steps, validations, and requirements to fulfil.
  • Virtual workshops: Videos of virtual meetings held with the respective focal point, with the aim of working on practical and concrete cases that allow the revised contents to be deepened.
Start of course:

From December 22, 2022

Target audience:

The course is aimed at project formulating teams in all FAO representations in the region that participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of projects in the context of FAO.

General objective:

Strengthen technical capacities for appropriate project design, emphasising initiative development that generates tangible results and large-scale impacts that contribute to the positive transformation of reality, the achievements of FAO's strategic objectives, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (ODS) at the country and regional levels.

Specific objectives:
  • Reinforce knowledge of project formulation definitions under the logical framework methodology to evaluate the project's contribution to the Organization's results chain.
  • Analyze and review FAO's project life cycle stages through the practical use of the platforms designed for this purpose.
  • Reinforce the horizontal and vertical logic concepts in the Logical Framework Methodology context and their importance related to both the design and measurement of proposed and achieved results.
  • Analyze the processes of project development within FAO, from a technical and administrative point of view, from formulation to evaluation and closure.
