Food for the cities programme

Analyzing findings

The initial analysis of data collected during the in-depth assessment allows the project team to answer the research questions.

A second level of analysis allows the project team to make sense of these answers, first by building up a picture of the situation in relation to the priority area/indicator to which the questions relate, and second by considering the knock-on implications across all CRFS components.

As a result of the analysis, the project team will be able to identify the most significant problems, bottlenecks and weaknesses that undermine the sustainability and resilience of the CRFS, and their causes.

For the multi-risk track, it will be possible to identify the risk determinants (hazards, exposure, vulnerabilities, (lack of) resilience capacities), and the causes of these risk determinants, that pose the most serious risks to the CRFS.

The following resources will help with the analysis of findings:

Tool: Qualitative analysis software

The document provides a (non exhaustive) list of qualitative data analysis software tools, which may help the project team to organise and analyse large amounts of raw data from various sources.

Guidance: Step-by-step GIS guide for the CRFS assessment and planning process

Guidance: Analysis of In-depth assessment findings

This tool sets out a logical process for analysing the findings of the In-depth assessment for the multi-risk track, allowing the project team to make sense of the answers to the qualitative research questions.

Explainer: The food systems approach

An explanation of the food systems approach, including how contextual factors condition the experiences of stakeholders, processes and relationships, and how outcomes of activities and interactions in value chains contribute to contextual factors.

Training unit 8: In-depth assessment of the CRFS

This training unit explains how to develop the methodology for an in-depth assessment of CRFS sustainability, including identifying data sources and data collection methods. It provides advice on conducting fieldwork and data analysis.

Training unit 9: In-depth assessment of climate and pandemic risks to the CRFS

This training unit explains how to develop the methodology for an in-depth assessment of climate and pandemic risks to the CRFS, including identifying data sources and data collection methods. It provides advice on conducting fieldwork and data analysis.
