Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing

Video: The Voluntary Guidelines for Transshipment

Done in the right manner, transshipment, or the transfer of fish onboard from one vessel to another, helps the fishing industry work in an efficient way. Transshipment however needs to be regulated, monitored and controlled so that it does not offer a way for catches derived from illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing to enter the supply chain, threatening sustainable fisheries, the marine environment, the livelihoods of fishers, and global food security. The FAO Voluntary Guidelines for Transshipment provide minimum standards for countries to do just that.
