Under the FAO Technical Cooperation Project," Assessment of the National School Feeding Programme in The Bahamas”, representatives from the Ministries of Education, Health and Agriculture participated in a study tour to the Dominican Republic in November 2019.

During the tour, the Bahamas delegation observed the sustainable school feeding model in the Dominican Republic through meetings with partners such as the Parliamentary Front Against Hunger, The National Institute of Student Welfare (El Instituto Nacional de Bienestar Estudiantil - INABIE) and suppliers used for the school feeding programme in the Dominican Republic.

The Bahamas delegation shared that the experience was well planned and informative and that they looked forward to incorporating components they were able to see during the visit to enhance the current school feeding programme.

The study tour was the last activity of the project that aimed at strengthening the social protection, food security and nutritional status of students through the National School Feeding Programme.

Highlights from the tour are being produced in a video which will be shared on the website for FAO Jamaica, the Bahamas and Belize and FAO YouTube soon.
