Handover of surveillance drones to General Authority for Veterinary Services

19/03/2019

Within the framework of the technical cooperation project on the control of Foot and Mouth Disease in central and western regions of Mongolia, FAO Mongolia handed over first set of drones to General Authority for Veterinary Services for more effective surveillance of animal movements. In addition to monitoring animal movement, these drones will also monitor the activities in the quarantine zones to facilitate necessary fine tuning of emergency response and preparedness measures.

During the handover event, Good Emergency Management Practice: The essentials A guide to preparing for animal health emergencies and LIVESTOCK-RELATED INTERVENTIONS DURING EMERGENCIES: The how-to-do-it manual were also provided to GAVS. These manuals developed by FAO provide technical advice and guidelines for multiple livestock interventions required for effective emergency response to natural and human-induced disasters. These also outline in a systematic way the elements of satisfactory preparedness level for any livestock related disease emergency.
