UN Rome Based Agencies (FAO-IFAD-WFP) gathered in Manica for a MDG1c coordination and planning meeting

The three United Nations agencies based in Rome (RBAs), the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United Nations International of the Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP) held, on the 14th of April 2016, the second national coordination meeting of the Programme “Support to Accelerate Progress towards the Millennium Development Goal 1c in Mozambique (MDG1c).

The meeting assessed the implementation of the Joint Plan Activities agreed at the First Coordination Meeting held in October 2014 as well as the preparation of the plan for the biennium 2016-2017 based on complementarities identified and lessons learned from the activities implemented jointly by the RBAs.

The three Representatives of the RBAs, Castro Camarada (FAO, Abdoulaye Balde (WFP) and Robson Mutandi (IFAD) were present. At the opening session, addressing on behalf of the RBAs, the FAO Representative called for a greater inter-agency collaboration and coordination.

"For the three United Nations Agencies and partners, the most important is to work together. We should not only worry about achieving numerical / quantitative results, but primarily on how we can impact or changes in our beneficiaries’ lives" he said.

Approximately sixty (60) professionals involved in the implementation of the program were present including service providers, extension workers, technicians from SDAEs (District Services for Economic Activities), District Health Services for Women and Social Action, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (GON), representative of the Secretariat for Food Security technical and Nutrition (SETSAN), and experts from FAO, IFAD and WFP.

Similar meetings for planning of activities at the district level will be held in the coming months in the provinces of Tete and Nampula where the MDG1c is implementing activities.
