FAO has developed various tools and learning resources to improve the investment process, and partners with academia to adapt and upscale their use. The Investment Learning Platform is a key resource for those who plan, formulate, implement or evaluate public investment in agriculture and rural development. Among the available tools is RuralInvest, a free multilingual toolkit consisting of training courses, manuals and custom developed software that help practitioners and farmers prepare detailed rural development projects. See also the Ex-Ante Carbon-balance Tool (EX-ACT), which is an appraisal system developed by FAO that provides estimates of the impact of agriculture and forestry development projects, programmes and policies on the carbon-balance. Additional tools include a compendium for social analysis and an online toolkit for designing, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of land administration programmes in Latin America, as well as the Smart Territories Platform.
