New Programmatic Priorities
On 11 January 2019, the Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development and FAO jointly adopted the additional new programmatic priorities as follows:
- Development of organic, plastic-free and fair trade farming systems for small-holder farmers;
- Development of modern business type cooperatives for small-holder farmers;
- Multi-sectoral rural income diversification – smart farming systems and agro-ecotourism;
- Nutrition and food safety – future smart food, dietary change, organic and bio food generation.
- Sustainable Development agenda road map and investment plan for agriculture and natural resources;
- Addressing plastic pollution, promoting biodiversity and ecosystems conservations.
Priority areas
The Country Programme Framework (2017 - 2021) between FAO and Viet Nam has four key areas:
- Increased food security with focus on alleviation of hunger, malnutrition and food safety concerns
- Sustainable development of the agriculture sectors (including crop production, livestock, fisheries and forestry), contributing to the national Green Growth and other strategies on improved natural resources management and environment protection
- New Rural Development and Sustainable Poverty Reduction
- Enhancing resilience of communities to disasters and threats
