في الفترة ما بين عامي 2017 و2019، تحتفل العديد من ممثليات المنظمة القطرية في جميع مناطق العالم بالذكرى السنوية الأربعين لإنشائها. وبعد أربعة عقود من التعاون المثمر، أصبح عمل المنظمة اليوم أكثر من أي وقت مضى يتماشى مع أولويات الحكومات المضيفة في تحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة العالمية بواسطة العمل المحلي. وبوصفها وكالة معرفية تقف بأقدام ثابتة على أرض الواقع، تنفذ المنظمة برامج ومشاريع بالتعاون مع الأعضاء والشركاء لتحقيق الهدف المشترك المتمثل في #القضاء_على_الجوع وأهداف التنمية المستدامة الأخرى بحلول عام 2030.

ولئن كانت منظمة الأغذية والزراعة تقدّم الدعم التقني للبلدان الأعضاء من قَبل دون أن يكون لها حضور دائم على أرض الواقع، فإن افتتاح التمثيلية القطرية في 14 حزيران/ يونيو 1977 في لبنان كان بداية لحضور المنظمة الميداني الطويل الأجل على الصعيد الوطني.

في حين تمّ افتتاح الممثليات القطرية في أوروبا وآسيا الوسطى في عهدٍ أحدث (1990 - 2000)، فقد نفذت المنظمة مشاريعها الأولى في هذه المنطقة في عام 1977.
لدى المنظمة 5 مكاتب إقليمية و10 مكاتب إقليمية فرعية، منها 85 مكتبا للشراكة ومكاتب الاتصال،  37 مكتبا لاعتمادات متعددة، ومكتبا واحدا للبرنامج، و4 مراسلين وطنيين، و6 مكاتب اتصال، ومكتبي إعلام، وتجري عمليتان أخريتان بشأن تدابير التمثيل.
تغطي شبكة المنظمة الحالية للمكاتب الميدانية 152 بلدا. وداخل هذه الشبكة، هناك 85 ممثلية قطرية للمنظمة، تم إنشاء الكثير منها بين عامي 1977 و1979.
ومثّلت مكاتب الشراكة ومكاتب الاتصال في المنظمة وسيلة لبدء أو تعزيز حضور المنظمة في البلدان والعمل بشكل أفضل مع المانحين والشركاء.
يعمل 45 في المائة من موظفي المنظمة في المكاتب اللامركزية.
