Biography

Beth Crawford is ADG/Director of the Office of Strategy, Programme and Budget (OSP). In her role, she supports the Director-General on strategic and policy matters related to the Organization’s objectives, results-based programmes, and budgets for all sources of funds. She leads the development of policies and procedures on results-based management, ensuring that planning and budget activities and services are mutually supportive, and coordinates the preparation of the Organization’s strategic, programme and budget plans. She manages allocation of Regular Programme resources, and monitors and reports on corporate programme and budget implementation to help ensure effective and efficient achievement of results.

Ms. Crawford has worked in international development throughout her career, starting in 1984 as US Peace Corps volunteer in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She has been with FAO for over 25 years, both at headquarters and in decentralized locations.

At headquarters, she has held increasing responsible positions in the formulation and implementation of FAO's corporate strategic planning framework, the preparation and presentation of key Governing Body documents on FAO’s strategic programmes, budgets and results, and the overall management of budgetary performance.

As FAO Representative to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, based in Sri Lanka, Ms. Crawford managed FAO country-level strategy, planning, programme development and programme implementation, provided leadership on food security and agriculture policy, and facilitated timely access by national stakeholders to FAO's knowledge resources and global public goods.

As Regional Programme Leader at the FAO Regional Office for Africa in Ghana, she supported the formulation, implementation, monitoring and reporting of FAO’s overall programme of work in the Africa Region, raised awareness on the role of food and agriculture in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and assisted the regional team in mobilizing resources and in developing key partnerships.

Ms Crawford, a national of the United States of America, holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration (MPA) from New York University, New York, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, California.
