Congo’s Minister of Agriculture stresses importance of both quantity and quality of food in achieving food security
The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock for the Republic of Congo, Rigobert Maboundou, recently voiced his support for ICN2, specifically the role of proper nutrition in improving food security. “This initiative is both important and essential because we tend to see food security solely in terms of increasing food supply, whereas to lead a healthy life we need to combine food supply with quality,” the minister said. “We must focus increasingly on the quality of the food we eat because it is entirely possible for someone to eat well in sufficient quantities but to be exposed diseases like obesity. We must therefore focus greater attention on the important link between the amount of food and its quality.” He stressed the importance of ICN2’s objective to assist world leaders in developing and implementing public policies to address the dual issue of improving food quantity and quality.
