The Senegal River Basin Development Authority (Organisation pour la mise en valeur du fleuve Sénégal, OMVS) is an intergovernmental development organisation created on 11 March 1972 in Nouakchott by the states of Mali, Mauritania, and Senegal, later joined by Guinea, to jointly manage and develop the Senegal River and its drainage basin. The Organisation pour la mise en valeur du fleuve Sénégal (OMVS) oversees cooperative efforts among its member states to promote food security and self‑sufficiency, improve the income of local populations, preserve natural ecosystems, and support economic development through coordinated management of water resources, irrigation, navigation, hydroelectric energy and ecosystem protection across the river basin. The OMVS operates from its headquarters in Dakar, Senegal, and is recognised for its role in regional water cooperation and sustainable development within West Africa.
