The Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries (IRTA) is a research institute owned by the Government of Catalonia adscribed to the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food. It is regulated by Law 04/2009, passed by the Catalan Parliament on 15 April 2009, and it is ruled by private regulations. It takes part of the CERCA centres system of Catalonia. Since 1985, IRTA has been providing knowledge, answers and solutions to the Catalan agri-food sector, with which we work side by side. In the current context of climate change and increasing world population, the mission is to contribute to the transformation of agri-food systems, from farm to table, so that they are sustainable for the environment, provide quality, safe and affordable food to people, and are economically viable for the sector.
