North-Eastern Federal University named after M.K. Ammosov (Северо-Восточный федеральный университет имени М.К. Аммосова) was officially established in April 2010.
The university is named after Maksim Kirovich Ammosov, an outstanding statesman, a son of the Yakut people, and one of the founders of both Yakutia and Kyrgyzstan statehood.
The university comprises five research institutes: the Institute of Mathematics, the Institute of Applied Ecology of the North, the Institute of Regional Economy of the North, the A.E. Kulakovsky Institute, and the Institute of Olonkho.
