The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is thrilled to announce a major milestone for AGRIS (the International System for Agricultural Science and Technology) - the AGRIS Network has now expanded to reach 1,500 data providers. This achievement marks a significant step forward in the mission to make agricultural science and research more accessible, findable, and impactful for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners worldwide.
A Growing Network for a Growing Need
The AGRIS network is powered by a diverse and ever-expanding community of data providers— agricultural research systems, academic institutions, publishers, governmental bodies, international organizations, and more. In just one year, the AGRIS Network has grown from 450 to 1,500 data providers, reaffirming its place as one of the most dynamic agricultural databases worldwide. These contributors play a vital role in making local and global agricultural research discoverable by sharing metadata records and linking to full-text resources.
Reaching 1,500 data providers is not just a number—it represents increased content diversity, geographic coverage, and thematic depth. With each new organization that joins AGRIS, it brings in unique research outputs, from peer-reviewed journal articles to grey literature and institutional publications that might otherwise remain invisible.
Why the AGRIS Network Matters
Open access to reliable, high-quality agricultural information is more critical than ever. AGRIS serves as a free, multilingual platform that connects users with over 15.6 million bibliographic records in 121 languages in agricultural science and technology, supporting everything from crop improvement and soil health to policy development and rural innovation.
The AGRIS network of data providers ensures that the platform remains inclusive and representative of global knowledge. It enables:
- Visibility for local, regional, and national research that may not be indexed elsewhere.
- Knowledge exchange across borders, fostering collaboration and innovation.
- Support for evidence-based decision-making through access to credible, peer-reviewed information.
More Data Providers, Richer Content, Greater Impact
With 1,501 data providers contributing regularly, AGRIS users benefit from a richer, more dynamic repository of agricultural knowledge. This surge in participation has led to:
- A steady increase in new metadata records added to the platform.
- Greater linguistic and regional diversity of content, as AGRIS now offers records in 121 languages
AGRIS extends a warm welcome to the newest institutions that have become AGRIS data providers including:
- Egyptian Society for Biological Control of Pests, Egypt
- Kisii University, Kenya
- North-Caucasus Federal University, Russian Federation
- Noandishan Amin International Institute for Environmental Management, Iran
- Batumi State Maritime Academy, Georgia
