Virtual Event, 08/02/2024
In the context of the evolving digital landscape, the COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the limitations of traditional approaches to education and training in agrifood systems. While existing technologies have played crucial roles, the need for innovative solutions, especially in the face of restricted physical interactions, has become evident.
In this context, the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITCILO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will host a webinar titled “Immersive Technology in Agrifood: Extended Reality for Training & Education” on 8 February 2024, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM CET.
This webinar aims to explore the potential of immersive technology, encompassing Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR), to revolutionize education and advisory services in the agrifood sector.
Objectives:
- Raise Awareness: Highlight the significance of immersive technology in enhancing advisory services, formal education, and vocational training in agrifood systems.
- Explore Applications: Understand the conditions and scenarios where immersive technology can be effectively introduced and applied.
- Identify Trends and Gaps: Examine current practices, identify trends, and pinpoint gaps to provide insights for future research and application, particularly in training activities and coaching mechanisms.
- Showcase Innovations: Present examples from early adopters, showcasing advancements in VR, AR, MR, and XR technologies with a focus on applications in education and agrifood sectors.
- Discuss FAO's and ITCILO roles: Engage in discussions on how FAO can support advisory services in adopting immersive technology for capacity development among smallholder farmers, fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors.
This webinar will serve as a platform to share knowledge, explore possibilities, and chart a course for the integration of immersive technology in education and advisory services within the agrifood domain.
