AgriTech Observatory: A virtual hub to monitor digital agriculture developments in Europe and Central Asia

FAO has launched the regional AgriTech Observatory for review, a virtual platform dedicated to the advancement of digital agriculture in Europe and Central Asia. This initiative emerges in response to the rapidly evolving digital agriculture landscape and the need for identifying innovative solutions and scaling up good practices within the region.

Designed as a platform for practitioners, innovators, policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders, the AgriTech Observatory serves as a tool to identify digital agriculture initiatives and monitor regional developments. The platform, the first resource of its kind focused specifically on Europe and Central Asia, is equipped with interactive filters, a map, and analytics, allowing users to explore a multitude of digital agriculture initiatives and perform analyses.

Conceived as a digital public good, it contributes to existing open data and knowledge sharing initiatives, such as the FAO Agro-informatics Platform. Several organizations supported its research efforts, including JengaLab, Central European University, American University of Central Asia and the Georgian Farmers Association.

Looking ahead into 2024, the Observatory is set for continuous evolution and enhancement with plans to integrating additional digital agriculture projects, policies, and resources aimed at fostering innovation and digital transformation across the agricultural sector. By increasing access to knowledge, the platform aims to catalyze positive change, innovation and digitalization across Europe and Central Asia.
