FAO Hand-in-Hand Geospatial Platform and Digital Services Portfolio nominated for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2024

18/03/2024
Over the last years, FAO has been developing and implementing digital inclusion initiatives, scaling up innovative digital technologies for development and targeted interventions worldwide. The FAO Digital Services Portfolio (DSP) and the FAO Hand-in-Hand (HIH) Geospatial Platform (GP) are at the forefront of this effort, revolutionizing how we address global challenges in agriculture and food security through new digital capabilities.

Their transformative potential has been recognized with the recent nomination for the prestigious World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2024, where out of 1049 digital projects submitted, only 360 projects were selected, with 20 projects representing each of the 18 WSIS Action Lines.

The WSIS Prizes is the unique global platform to identify and showcase success stories in the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines and SDGs, creating an effective mechanism to evaluate projects and activities that leverage the power of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to advance sustainable development.

These nominations recognize FAO''s commitment to fostering global development through digital initiatives in the food and agriculture sector.

We encourage our networks and communities to support  this achievement and take it to the next stage by registering on the WSIS Prizes 2024 platform and voting for T the Digital Services Portfolio (DSP) under Action Line C7: E-agriculture and FAO HiH Geospatial Platform (GP) under Action Line C11: International and Regional Cooperation by 31 March 2024.

Winners will be announced at the WSIS Prizes 2024 Ceremony during the WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event taking place in Geneva from 27-31 May.
