FPMA Tool Recognized as a Digital Public Good

20/08/2025
In 2025, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) reached another milestone that reflects its growing leadership in digital development: ten FAO-built tools and platforms have now been officially certified as Digital Public Goods (DPGs) by the Digital Public Goods Alliance.

The newest to join the list is the Food Price Monitoring and Analysis Tool (FPMA), a platform first launched in 2009 to provide open, reliable food price data from nearly 100 countries and more than 80 commodities. Built in the aftermath of the 2007–2008 food price crisis, FPMA has evolved into one of the most comprehensive and user-friendly global resources for tracking market trends, detecting anomalies, and supporting timely, evidence-based policies that can help protect the most vulnerable from food insecurity.

The DPG certification is not just a badge, it is the recognition that a tool is open, accessible, high-quality, and designed to make a real impact. Following this path, FAO’s FPMA officially meets rigorous international standards for transparency, inclusivity, and sustainability.

FAO’s growing portfolio of DPGs — now spanning data tools, policy platforms, and mobile apps — demonstrates the Organization’s commitment to ensure that its digital solutions are designed to be inclusive, reusable, and scalable. With more certifications on the horizon, FAO is showing what a DPG-first approach can look like in action: helping to build the global open digital infrastructure for agrifood systems, ensuring that no one is left behind in the digital era.
