Geospatial Training in Gabon – Advancing Data-Driven Agricultural Planning
🌍 Geospatial Training in Gabon – Advancing Data-Driven Agricultural Planning
From 16 to 19 June, FAO conducted a capacity-building workshop in Libreville, Gabon, focused on the use of geospatial data tools to support better planning of priority agricultural investments.
Organized under the framework of the Joint SDG Fund and the Hand-in-Hand Initiative, the workshop brought together around 30 experts from key national institutions, including the General Planning Commission, Ministry of Agriculture, and statistical and spatial agencies.
🔍 Over four days, participants engaged in:
- Applying the Stochastic Frontier Analysis model to define agricultural typologies
- Using GIS Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis for infrastructure suitability mapping
- Hands-on work with the AgroInformatics Platform (AIP), including data integration, map visualization, metadata handling, and publication workflows
💡 The workshop marked a key milestone in strengthening national capacity to apply evidence-based planning tools that support inclusive rural development, food sovereignty, and effective investment targeting.
This mission brought together diverse expertise, delivered high-quality technical support, and reinforced national ownership, all contributing to meaningful progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
👏 Thanks to our partners in Gabon and all FAO colleagues for their strong collaboration and commitment. Together, we are transforming data into a powerful driver of sustainable development and impactful decision-making.
