The new FAO Data Visualization Catalogue is available online

24/09/2025
Reflecting the Organization’s ongoing commitment to digital transformation, FAO has officially launched the new FAO Data Visualization Catalogue. Showcasing over 50 dashboards and interactive tools, the catalogue offers a centralized and user-friendly platform to explore the number of knowledge products enabled by the Organization to monitor, analyze, and interpret data in the most efficient way.

This catalogue simplifies what was previously a fragmented experience. Instead of navigating different portals or asking around to locate a specific dashboard, users can now browse through a single, well-organized space that showcases tools across agriculture, food security, climate, fisheries, forestry, and more. This launch marks a significant step toward making FAO’s data more transparent, accessible, and useful for everyone - from policymakers and researchers to technical experts and partners.

“Our aim was to make data more visible, more navigable, more interoperable, and more impactful,” says Martha Garcia Acevedo, Information Technology Officer, leading the catalogue development. “We recognized that FAO had a wealth of visualization products spread across different platforms and domains, which were not completely user-friendly. By bringing them together in one single space, and creating this ‘One Stop Shop’, we simplify the search for users, helping them find the tools they need faster and more intuitively.”

Built with this idea at its core, the catalogue is hosted on the FAO Agro-informatics webpage, where users can easily navigate from one tool to another. Each entry includes a brief description, a direct link to each tool, and easy-to-use filters, so visitors can quickly find the right visualization tool for their needs.

Billy Kanjala, Information Technology Officer also involved in the project, emphasizes the collaborative nature of the initiative. “We worked closely with several teams across FAO to collect all the information necessary to make sure the catalogue reflects the full spectrum of the Organization's work. It's not just a simple and static list of tools; it’s a living collection that will keep growing as new visualizations come online.”

Having everything in one place doesn’t just improve overall access; it also streamlines workflows. Whether drafting reports, developing strategies, or responding to emergencies, users can now find the right visualization much faster and focus on what really matters: putting data to work.

“Presenting data in a way that’s accessible and easy to understand helps turn information into action” says Zhongxin Chen, Senior Technology Officer and lead of FAO’s Digital for Impact stream, reflecting on the catalogue’s broader ambition. “It’s not just about building tools; it’s about making sure they are actually used. When people can easily find and interact with data, it increases our collective capacity to respond to challenges and make informed choices in agrifood systems with advanced agro-informatics technology” he adds.

The FAO Data Visualization Catalogue is now live and open for anyone to explore. As new dashboards and tools continue to emerge, the collection will evolve, keeping pace with the Organization’s growing digital footprint. FAO invites the global community to discover how technology is being used to connect data with decisions and support a more food-secure and sustainable future.
