Above-ground biomass stock and forest-woodland cover changes in refugee settlements
10/03/2025
The FAO-NSL Geospatial Unit has worked on eight new datasets which have recently been published on the Agro-informatics Platform within the Land Cover/Use channel. The data focuses on four refugee settlements. Among those, two are located in the United Republic of Tanzania and two in Uganda. The data provides information on forest woodland cover and above-ground biomass stock changes for the areas of Nduta, Nyarugusu, Kyangwali and Palabek.
The data for Uganda has been collected within the National Biomass Survey (NBS). A project designed in 1989 to quantify biomass stock across the landscape in all woody formations including bush and agricultural residues with the purpose to evaluate the biomass energy contributions of Uganda’s total delivered energy.
The information regarding the United Republic of Tanzania has been compiled from the National Forest Resources Monitoring and Assessment (NAFORMA) biophysical survey.
