Climate Change Adaptation in Peru

Project's full title Climate Change Adaptation in Peru

Countries Peru
Start date 31/05/2008
End date 31/05/2012
Status Completed
Recipient / Target Areas Peru
Objective / Goal

The project areas were two watersheds: Santo Tomás (Chumbivilcas Province in Cuzco) and Challhuahuacho (Cotambambas province in Apurimac), with a population of approximately 85 000 people. The situation of these watersheds is representative of what happens in other Andean regions, so the project could also be applied in other areas. Early flowering, seasonal temperature changes, reduced flows in rivers, disappearance of wildlife, the shifting of maize towards higher land, short and violent rains and landslides, and pests are evidence of climate change in the area.

Impact

It consisted of capacity building activities for provincial and district governments and producer associations, and local populations in Peru.

The following five videos identify climate related problems and adaptation solutions in the two Peruvian provinces: Interactive and adaptive management, Ichu grass, water reservoirs, reforestation and adapting diets.
