Objective(s) of the engagement

Cooperation under this Letter of Intent will focus on joint activities in: food loss and waste; global climate action agenda and climate change and agriculture; digital innovation collaboration; support to resilience-building in disaster and emergency settings; and land rights, through the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure.

Progress to date
  • In 2019 FAO facilitated and supported policy dialogue activities, in collaboration with Unilever, the governments of Argentina, Chile and El Salvador, as well as private sector entities, in the area of food loss and waste reduction
  • Support for the Declaration of the National Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste in Argentina (September 29) by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries though the Ministerial Resolution 44/2019
  • Advice and support  provided for the development of knowledge products (a guide to reduce food waste at household level) as well as for awareness raising campaigns on food waste provided in Argentina
  • Policy advice and knowledge sharing related to food loss and waste in Chile to the government and its partners to support an awareness raising campaign launched in September 2019 
  • In El Salvador and Guatemala awareness raising campaigns on food loss and waste were planned and joint campaign materials were produced
