Objective(s) of the engagement

This partnership aims support the welfare of farm households and create positive dynamics and opportunities for economic growth. The cooperation will support promote the sustainable mechanization efforts in rural areas and encourage stakeholders to contribute to and participate in relevant meetings on agricultural mechanization under the global umbrella of the AgriEvolution Alliance.

Progress to date
  • Position papers on ‘Promoting Sustainable Agriculture Mechanization in Africa’ (2019), ‘Full deployment of agricultural machinery data-sharing: technical challenges and solutions’ (2020)
  • Collaboration on reintroduction of agricultural machinery datasets to FAOSTAT
  • In 2018-2019, FAO, CEMA and the African Union Commission (AUC) participated in the launch event and regional meetings in support of the Framework for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization in Africa (F-SAMA)
  • Joint participation in forums and events on a range of topics, including agricultural mechanization in sub-Saharan agriculture, conservation agriculture, cross border trade of agricultural machineries, and sustainable agricultural mechanization
  • 11 impact surveys carried out by the global agricultural machinery network and CEMA between March 2020 - May 2021, to understand the level of market distortion and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on agricultural machinery suppliers
  • Launch of Smart Agriculture Solutions in support of the EU Eco-Scheme (2021)
