FAO and the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) discuss new paths for engagement
Representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) met at FAO headquarters in March 2024, where they discussed concrete plans for future cooperation and interaction.
A Memorandum of Understanding between FAO and CCOIC was signed in March 2023, and the recent meeting emphasized the significance of strategic cooperation between the two organizations. Discussions covered trade promotion in China in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), capacity building for sustainable agrifood systems and agricultural development, and knowledge and information sharing.
During the meeting, Chen Jian’an, Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and Vice Chairman of CCOIC, met with representatives of FAO’s Partnerships and UN Collaboration Division (PSU), Office of Emergencies and Resilience (OER), South-South and Triangular Cooperation Division (PST), Markets and Trade Division (EST), Agrifood Systems and Food Safety Division (ESF), and the Hand-in-Hand Initiative to discuss extensively on sustainable agricultural development and other topics.
In its partnership with CCOIC, one of China’s most influential business associations, FAO seeks to drive an in-depth collaboration and encourage the Chinese business community to contribute to the transformation of agrifood systems and achievement of the SDGs.
