Excellences,
Ladies and Gentlemen
1. Energy is crucial to our agri-food systems.
2. But the current use of energy needs to be significantly improved.
3. First –fossil fuels - which causes greenhouse gas emissions are not sustainable.
4. Second – energy is lacking in many agri-food systems in developing countries, causing food and income losses for farmers and other agri-food sectors.
5. We need better access to sustainable energy along the entire agri-food chain through better energy efficiency and better use of renewable energy.
6. We need to be energy-smart and innovative for clean-energy and zero-emission solutions.
7. This is crucial to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG7 for universal access to clean energy, and SDG2 for a free hunger world.
8. And for better production, better nutrition, better environment and better life, leaving no one behind.
9. This year provides key opportunities to ensure that high-level discussions on energy take place: starting with this High Level Dialogue; going forward with the implementation of the outcomes of the UN Food Systems Summit held yesterday; the Biodiversity COP 15 next month; and the Climate Change COP26 in November.
10. Now is the time to transform our agri-food systems to make them more efficient,, inclusive, sustainable and resilient.
11. Together, let’s join efforts for a clean energy transition across agri-food systems for People, Planet and Prosperity.
12. Thank you
