The objective is to increase the capacity of veterinary services on MNs to identify and investigate FMD suspected cases and outbreaks.
Learning objectives
- Identify clinical signs of FMD;
- Estimate the age of FMD lesions;
- Document clinical findings;
- Take appropriate samples FMD laboratory diagnosis;
- Submit FMD suspected samples to the laboratory in a biosecure manner;
- Interpret laboratory results following submission of suspect FMD samples to the laboratory;
- Construct an epidemiological timeline for backwards and forwards tracing;
- Design an FMD investigation using the principles of outbreak investigation;
- Assess risk factors for FMD spread;
- Assess farm biosecurity;
- Demonstrate principles of biosecurity when entering/exiting FMD infected premises;
- Outline FMD emergency response options available in the scenario provided.
