Open Session 2024 - The European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (EuFMD)

The European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (EuFMD) Standing Technical Committee is delighted to invite the submission of abstracts for papers and posters to be presented at its Open Session 2024. The Open Session is held every two years and has become one of the largest global events dedicated to technical and scientific advances in the control of foot-and-mouth disease and similar transboundary animal diseases (FAST diseases ). This year marks the 70th anniversary of the EuFMD so we hope you will join us in celebrating this important milestone at the Open Session on 29–31 October 2024 in Alcalá de Henares, Spain.

The theme of this year's conference is “FAST disease risks in a changing world - from Megatrends to Microlearning”. For this occasion, the EuFMD will join forces with the Global FMD Research Alliance (GFRA) to organize and deliver the third day of the conference.

By bringing together researchers and policymakers, the EuFMD Open Session provides a platform to showcase advances in FAST disease research worldwide, fosters multi-sectoral discussions and contributes to the FAO sustainable livestock transformation initiative and One Health Program Priority Area.

For the OS24, abstracts should be related to any of the following subthemes:

  • FAST surveillance
  • Socioeconomics of FAST diseases
  • Risk assessment and risk modelling
  • FAST virology
  • FAST diagnostics
  • Biosecurity
  • FAST vaccination
  • FAST emergency response
  • Capacity Development

The deadline for abstract submission is 15th June 2024 12.00 pm CEST. After the peer-review process of the EuFMD Standing Technical Committee, applicants will be informed of the outcome by the end of July 2024.
