Rural women empower a model that thrives
SSP’s investment in rural women builds their confidence to assume public leadership roles and helps them promote climate resilience, food security, and more. In a pilot project in the wake of the 1993 Latur earthquake, over a thousand women took the lead as facilitators between the government and their communities for rehabilitation work. Nearly 30 years later, this model, of organising women for a community effort, has proved itself through earthquakes, tsunamis, cyclones, droughts, and, most recently, a pandemic.
