Farmers in Busia County have partnered with Kilimo Hai, an agriculture organization, to adopt agro-ecological farming practices using organic fertilizers made from animal waste and rabbit urine as pesticides. This transition has been motivated by the high cost of conventional farming inputs and the need for sustainable ecosystem management and food security. According to Kilimo Hai's Field Officer in Busia, Michael Wangalwa, the shift to agro-ecological farming has been successful due to the availability of materials for making the organic fertilizers and pesticides. The use of organic fertilizers is considered environmentally friendly and safe for both plants and crops.
