Sustainable approaches for management of root-knot nematodes on vegetables

Root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) are a concern to both smallholders and commercial producers involved in intensive vegetable production. Although not all smallholders will recognize nematodes as a production constraint. The following describes the development, through public-private sector partnership with a commercial horticulture producer, techniques for the production of bio control agents for the integrated management of root-knot nematodes on tomato and other horticultural crops and promotion via networks of smallholder growers. Also reports on the development and implementation of regulatory mechanisms for the approval and registration of bio control agents in Kenya that are applicable elsewhere.
