Guidelines for the seaworthiness and safety inspection of small fishing vessels

These guidelines for seaworthiness and safety inspections of small fishing vessels aim to prevent accidents, reduce losses in small-scale fisheries, and make commercial fishing safer. They support the provision of insurance services for small vessels, especially for small-scale fishers in developing countries, and offer practical guidance for inspecting decked vessels under 12 metres and undecked vessels. Complementing the 2015 SSF Guidelines, the document covers hull materials, structural checks, machinery, stability tests, safety equipment, and reporting. It also helps vessel owners assess their own vessels, promoting safety awareness and risk management. Additionally, it includes actions for awareness raising and capacity building, along with checklists for inspections and stability tests.
