Classifications and standards
The publication, Classification of Forest Products, constitutes a complete product classification covering all wood and paper products. It provides a framework for international comparison and promotes the harmonization of various types of statistics related to forest products. Moreover, the classification of forest products is useful for developing statistical systems related to forest products and producing statistics on production, industry capacity and trade; it can also serve as a reference for ensuring consistency (“correspondence”) among existing international statistical systems related to forest products.

Nomenclature générale des bois tropicaux 2016 (General nomenclature of tropical woods 2016)
01/04/2016
For 60 years, ATIBT has maintained the tropical timber nomenclature by establishing a correspondence between botanical species names and their respective pilot name, which is internationally recognized. The ATIBT’s pilot name is the result of practical considerations, with the aim of getting rid of common names that may lead to confusion. It elects the name under which the wood is most commonly traded, either by the main exporting country or by the main importing country.
FAO Contribution to the Harmonized System 2017
11/05/2015
As the HS is a multipurpose tool, often used for statistics other than trade and as the basis for the development of international and national classifications, this is also an outstanding opportunity to strengthen data harmonization across countries and to integrate agricultural statistics with other statistical domains.
