The State of Food Insecurity in the World 2012 is released
FAO's jointly published The State of Food Insecurity in the World 2012 (SOFI) is released today - and it shows that one in eight people in the world was suffering from chronic undernourishment in 2010-12. The UN report is published by FAO and its Rome-based partners WFP and IFAD. While the global number of hungry people declined by almost 130 million between 1990-92 and 2010-12, the report says global progress in reducing hunger has slowed and levelled off in the past five years. Director-General José Graziano da Silva presented a joint press conference with the other agencies' leaders at Rome headquarters today. For his reaction and further details, click here.

El papel de la pesca y la acuicultura sostenible en la seguridad alimentaria y la nutrición - Consulta elecrónica para establecer las bases del estudio
Reconociendo debidamente el importante papel desempeñado por la pesca y la acuicultura en la seguridad alimentaria y la nutrición, el Comité de Seguridad Alimentaria Mundial (CFS, por sus siglas en inglés) en su 39º período de sesiones (octubre de 2012) pidió al Grupo de Alto Nivel de Expertos (HLPE, por sus siglas en inglés) realizar un estudio sobre el papel de la pesca y la acuicultura sostenibles para la seguridad alimentaria y la nutrición, que se presentará en el Plenario en 2014.
Como parte de su proceso de elaboración del informe, el HLPE lanza ahora una consulta electrónica para recabar opiniones, comentarios y observaciones del público, sobre la relevancia e importancia relativa de algunas cuestiones clave que el informe propone abordar, en línea con la petición del CFS, y que podrían formar las bases del informe.

Durante décadas el movimiento internacional a favor de los discapacitados ha afirmado que la discapacidad es una causa de la pobreza, que a menudo ésta conduce a la discapacidad y que las personas discapacitadas están entre las más pobres de cualquier país.
