COMMENTARY: FAO Gambia's 2023 Country Programming Framework meeting nurtured stronger partnerships for sustainable food security

In a dynamic gathering that brought together diverse stakeholders and actors, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in The Gambia recently concluded its highly anticipated two-day 2023 Country Programming Framework (CPF) Session. This collaborative event, attended by esteemed representatives from government ministries, partner institutions, and regional governors, marked a pivotal moment for strengthening partnerships, enhancing resource mobilization efforts, and ensuring lasting food security.

 

The opening ceremony set the stage for a productive dialogue, as  Moshibudi Rampedi, FAO Representative expressed the significance of the event for FAO’s mandate and the commitment to reach Agenda 2030 targets. Throughout  the sessions, various partner institutions showcased the remarkable achievements and impact attained through  various collaborative and inclusive interventions regardless of the challenges they encountered and the innovative pathways forward.

 

It was heartening to witness the unwavering commitment of the Regional Governors who graced the occasion. Their presence spoke volumes about their dedication to rural development and sincere appreciation for the transformative impact FAO projects have had in their respective areas for better production, better nutrition, a better environment  and a better life.

 

Group works and recommendations played a vital role in fostering constructive discussions during the session and formulating a framework which reflect the needs of Gambians. The attentive participation of all participants ensured an atmosphere of enthusiasm and a sense of shared responsibility.

 

The meeting concluded on a high note, reflecting the mutual determination to build stronger partnerships through the CPF. The CPF will  serve as a critical blueprint, outlining priority areas to guide FAO's support and cooperation with the Government of The Gambia for the next cycle from 2024 to 2028.

 

The CPF's alignment with The Gambia's National Development Plan, FAO's Strategic Objectives, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) signifies a comprehensive and holistic approach to tackle food security challenges. By involving ministries, non-state actors, civil society, and various partners, FAO ensures  multi-faceted and inclusive strategic programming.

 

This landmark event not only solidified existing partnerships but also laid the foundation for forging new alliances. As FAO and its stakeholders move forward together, united by a shared vision, the Gambia's food and agriculture sector can look forward to a more resilient, and food-secure future.

 

In conclusion, the 2023 Country Programming Framework Planning Session was a testament to the power of collaboration, the unwavering dedication of stakeholders, and the collective resolve to secure economic prosperity as well as food and nutrition security  for The Gambia. The event has set the stage for  transforming food systems and achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
