Partnering for sustainable agri-food systems and the environment

GEF Gender Partnership in Action: Support for a transformative and inclusive GEF-8

Gender equality is a prerequisite for effective climate and environment actions and for obtaining sustainable and equitable results.

The Rio Conventions have implemented substantive work programs on gender equality, mandated by the commitments and guided by gender action plans, with specific objectives and activities that aim to strengthen the knowledge, data and evidence, and understand how to support gender-transformative climate and environmental actions and mainstream gender equality in the implementation and operationalization of the Conventions.

GEF projects and programmes support countries and strategic partners with the implementation of these targets, mandates, and action plans on gender equality. Furthermore, GEF programming increasingly adopts a comprehensive social inclusion agenda, promoting transformative and inclusive approaches and policies that seek to remove the structural barriers to gender equality and women’s empowerment, by changing gender norms and roles, unequal power dynamics and discriminatory social structures and institutions. GEF projects and programmes help empower the most vulnerable and at-risk segments of the society, ensuring that no one is left behind.

This side event will This side event will reflect about the key ingredients of successful gender-transformative and inclusive GEF projects.
