Software launch "land characterization system software"
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is collaborating with the Institute of Intelligent Industrial Technologies and Systems for Advanced Manufacturing - National Research Council of Italy (STIIMA-CNR) to launch a new software called the "Land Characterization System Software" on 23 June 2023.
This software is developed based on the ISO 19144-2 Land Cover Meta Language and aims to assist land cover users in creating classes according to international standards. The software's purpose is to provide crucial land cover and land use (LCLU) data that supports various UN sustainability goals, international conventions, and UN agencies like FAO in addressing global challenges. By establishing LCLU data standards, the software enables transparent monitoring of progress and aids decision-making in disaster preparedness, agriculture, water and energy sectors, and more.
