Following the first consultation on land cover mapping in October 2023, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is organizing a three-days technical workshop on the use of land cover classification system from 21-23 November 2023. This workshop is the next in a series of capacity building workshops focused on land cover mapping and the latest associated tools following international standards. 

FAO has been developing international guidance and standards for land cover monitoring for the last decades. The Land Cover Classification System version 3 and Land Characterization System Software (new version) are softwares for editing land cover legends compliant with ISO 19144-2 – Land Cover Meta Language (LCML) standard. The main objective of this workshop is to enhance the national technical capacities and train the staff on Land Cover legend preparation and the use of LCCS/LCHS land cover characterization software.
