India raises minimum support prices for 2021 “Kharif” crops

On 9 June 2021, the Government of India approved the increase of the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for the 2021 “Kharif” main season crops, currently being planted and to be harvested from September onwards. The MSP of paddy rice crop was increased by 3.8 percent or INR 72 (USD 0.99) per 100 kg for both common (non-basmati) and A grade rice varieties. The MSP for common rice was set at INR 1 940 (USD 26.6) per 100 kg and the price for A grade rice at INR 1 960 (USD 26.9) per 100 kg. The MSP of maize were increased by 1 percent to INR 1 870 (USD 25.64) per 100 kg. The MSP for sorghum and oilseeds were also raised.
