Philippines extends import tariff reductions for rice and pork meat, and temporarily reduces import tariffs for maize and coal products

08/06/2022,

On 21 May 2022, the Government of the Philippines introduced Executive Order No. 171, extending import tariff reductions on rice and pork meat, and temporarily reducing import tariffs for maize and coal products through 31 December 2022. The decision was taken to mitigate the impact of inflationary pressure. The import tariffs for maize imported within the country’s import quota have been reduced from 35 to 5 percent, while tariffs for maize imports outside of the quota have been reduced from 50 to 15 percent. Import tariffs for rice have been cut from 40 percent in-quota and 50 percent out-of-quota to 35 percent, while that of pork have been cut from 30 to 15 percent in-quota and 40 to 25 percent out-of-quota. For coal (whether or not pulverized, but not agglomerated), the import tariffs have been eliminated until the end of 2022.
