South Africa increases import duty on wheat

13/04/2016,

The Government of South Africa approved a 34 percent increase in the tariff on wheat imports which will be applied for the rest of 2016. The import duty has been raised from 911.20 rand (USD 61), established last year in September, to 1 224.31 rand (USD 82) per tonne, following further reductions in the international price of wheat. The measure aims to protect local farmers from low prices and sustain domestic production of wheat.
