Zimbabwe revises import regulations

20/07/2016,

The Government has recently revised import regulations for a number of goods, including food products such as processed cereals, with an aim to reduce import dependency and boost domestic industry. The new regulations (Statutory Instrument 64.2016) would require traders to obtain permits for commodities, which previously could be freely imported under the Open General Import Licence (OGIL); the permit would be issued for a three-month period at a cost of USD 30. The new policy does not affect imports of cereal grains and is only targeted at commercial importers not at individuals.
