Harmonizing the assessment, mapping and monitoring of soil health
Reliable and comparable soil data are critical for informed decision-making. Working together with the International Network of Soil Information Institutions (INSII) and through collaborative initiatives such as the Global Soil Information System (GloSIS) and SoilSTAT, the GSP supports the development of harmonized soil information, monitoring and reporting.
Key information products include the Global Soil Organic Carbon Map (GSOCmap), the Global Salt-Affected Soils Map (GSASmap) and the Global Black Soil Distribution Map (GBSmap).
Through the the GSP supports the harmonization of soil laboratory methods and strengthens the quality, comparability and interoperability of soil data through standardized analytical methods, proficiency testing and innovations such as soil spectroscopy. Together, these efforts provide countries and decision-makers with reliable, harmonized soil information to support evidence-based policies and sustainable soil management.
