The Global Soil Partnership (GSP) is a voluntary multi-stakeholder partnership established by Members of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in 2012 to promote soil governance and sustainable soil management.
Supported by its Secretariat within FAO, the GSP fosters international cooperation, technical and scientific collaboration, capacity development, and knowledge exchange to support countries in the sustainable management of soils. Over the long term, its work contributes to healthier soils, more resilient agrifood systems, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Secretariat, hosted by FAO, assists the GSP. It coordinates and facilitates the implementation of the Partnership's actions.
Regional partnerships bring together active stakeholders within a given region, coordinate closely with FAO Regional Offices and engage national and regional institutions through interactive processes, with support from the GSP Secretariat.
Uniting all GSP partners, it meets annually to review and prioritize GSP actions, with all decisions taken by consensus.
The Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils (ITPS) provides scientific and technical advice on global soil issues related to the GSP.
The GSP is a voluntary partnership open to governments, international and regional organizations, institutions and other stakeholders from all around the world.
The eight Technical Networks bring together institutions and experts across several technical and thematic areas to improve soil health.
