Today, 57 percent of the world’s population lives in cities, and this percentage is expected to rise to 68 percent by 2050. Rethinking urban planning and design becomes imperative to the transition from holding cities accountable for environmental degradation to recognizing their potential as engines for green growth. Balancing urban development and ecosystem services requires an integrated approach that considers both human well-being and environmental health.

FAO Framework for the Urban Food Agenda

The FAO Framework for the Urban Food Agenda serves as a corporate strategy to address emerging calls from countries, responding to demands for a multi-sectorial, multi-stakeholder and multi-level approach to food insecurity and malnutrition across the rural-urban continuum. The Framework explains why FAO is in a unique position to influence positively the global urban food agenda and it defines guiding principles that ensure full inclusion of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda.
World Forum on Urban Forests (WFUF 2018): a call for action

Whether we live in small or large cities, we all need healthy urban forests, trees and green space for our livelihoods, recreation, and, in general, for our well-being. Too often, the enormous value of urban trees and green spaces is forgotten in the rapid expansion of towns and cities. Now is the time to take global action to preserve these precious resources.
