Chile’s Hand-in-Hand proposal seeks to close the territorial gaps of rural competitiveness by investing in productive infrastructure, value-chain coordination and services that enable small farmers to capture a greater share of value. In the wheat and cereals value chain, the priority is the southern macrozone, particularly La Araucanía, Ñuble and Biobío, where production potential coexists with high rural vulnerability and fragmented farm structures.

Chile has 17,444 wheat farmers, 88% of whom cultivate less than 10 hectares, while La Araucanía accounts for 54% of the national wheat area. At the same time, imported wheat represents 53% of apparent milling-wheat availability, highlighting the need to strengthen domestic competitiveness.

The proposed investment combines technical assistance, producer organization, certified storage, grain conditioning, quality control, traceability and public-private governance. The objective is to improve productivity, enable collective marketing, reduce forced sales at harvest, strengthen bargaining power and create a scalable model for more inclusive and competitive cereal markets.

Agro-informatics connects information technology with the management, analysis and application of agricultural data to indentify territories with untapped agrifood potential and design more accurate and targeted agrifood interventions. The use of new technologies and techniques in agriculture, such as satellite imagery, remote sensing, and geographic information systems, enable the transformation of data into actionable information.
